Ascend’s Footballing ‘Boy Wonder’ Wins the Veterans World Cup!

It’s a dream to play for England in the World Cup – even at age 75!

Every budding sportsperson dreams of representing their country and for some that dream can come true - even if they’ve had to wait longer than most! Ascend Broking’s very own Paul Bennett was part of England’s Over 75s team aiming for glory at the Veterans Football World Cup staged in Cardiff, last week, and returned victorious after beating Wales in the final. The prestigious Veterans World Cup included teams from Australia, Denmark, England, Germany, Norway and the USA, and took place over four days between the 20th and 23rd August. England progressed steadily over the course of the World Cup, winning game after game, then beat Copenhagen 2-1 in a tight semi-final, before going on to win against Wales in the exciting final refereed by Dermot Gallagher.   ‘What an experience!’ declared a jubilant Paul, 75, the England squad’s midfield dynamo. ‘Can you imagine if I’d told myself, as a kid, I’d be one day playing football for England! Unbelievable! And then to go on and win the tournament…I’m still pinching myself, to be honest.’     Everyone at Ascend is thrilled to welcome our sporting hero back to the office and to congratulate him on his amazing achievement.
