Crashing into parked cars is the most common road accident during lockdown
29% of insurance claims during lockdown have involved someone hitting an unattended vehicle. Insurance companies have said that this has increased 19% since the 23rd of March, when lockdown was introduced.
A number of factors may have caused this. One being that there have been more parked cars due to people staying at home and being unable to work. Another factor has been identified as many people being out of practice of driving due to being at home every day. Furthermore, with quieter roads, many motorists have been driving quicker causing accidents with parked cars.
The number of claims that have involved animals has also increased from 1% to 3%. The cause of this likely being due to more animals crossing roads due to reduced traffic.
